Max Walters is a creative explosion.
Stationed at Spotlight’s new South Melbourne store, he is an inspiration to all he meets and, after only months living in the city, has already forged friendships and working relationships with creative groups in the local community.
Max sees purple as his “royal colour” - expressing his higher ideals – so no wonder it is the colour he has chosen for the wonderful project he has provided for ‘get creative’.
“The rug was inspired by my 10 nieces and nephews,” he explains. “I was doing one each - all different - so I needed a simple pattern that could be adapted to any colour. It was launched at Spotlight's 2008 Knitting Party at the Rockhampton store (where he used to work) where we had eight different rugs on display all using the same pattern. We also raised over $80 for the local Camp Quality charity by getting donations for the pattern so as not to infringe any copyright for my pattern by selling it.”
Max’s creativity knows no bounds - he writes poems each year to accompany his 80 or so handmade Christmas cards. He has spent around 15 years involved in musical and dramatic theatre and cabaret and has qualifications in the Arts and welfare. Max spent 30 years as a welfare worker and counsellor in the drug, alcohol youth suicide and sexual health sectors.
