Materials
• 4 x 30cm square canvases
• Folk Art paint #633 Baby Pink
• paint brush
• pale pink pencil
• brown paper or tracing paper
• dark pencil /pen
Step 1
Cut a piece of brown paper to size - 63cm x 63cm. Draw a large butterfly shape on brown paper, making the wings of the butterfly go over the edges of the paper. Cut out butterfly shape from brown paper.
Step 2
Place the 30cm square canvases right side up, on a flat surface in a 2 x 2 grid with a 3cm space between all canvases. Lay paper butterfly shape over canvases, matching edges. Using pale pink pencil, lightly trace around butterfly shape onto the canvas.
Step 3
Using pink paint, paint around the butterfly shape, carefully going over the pencil lines. Continue the shape of the butterfly around the side edges and paint accordingly. Allow to dry. When hanging the finished canvases, make sure to hang them with the same 3cm space in between each of the canvases.
Handy Hint
To get a symmetrical butterfly, draw the left half of the butterfly, fold through the centre vertical and then trace the same butterfly shape onto the right hand side.
Handy Hint
To avoid seeing pencil lines through paint (especially pale colours) always use the same colour pencil to match the paint you plan to use.
