Crochet market bag

- Materials
- • 3 x 50g balls crochet cotton 8ply
• 4.50 mm crochet hook
• scissors
• yarn needle
• stitch marker or safety pin to mark start of each round - Step 1
- Instructions
Foundation row: Make 43ch.
Rnd 1: 1dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1dc in ea of next 41 ch, turn and work along bottom, 1dc in bottom of next 42 ch, sl st into 1st dc (84 dc).
Use stitch marker to mark start.
Rnd 2: 1ch, 1dc in same st as sl st, 1dc in ea of next 83 sts, sl st to 1st dc.
Repeat round 2, 5 times.
Rnd 8: 1ch, 1dc in ea of next 2 dc, *2ch, miss 2 dc, 1dc in ea of next 2 dc, repeat from * to last 2 sts, (1ch, 1dc) in 1st dc.
Rnd 9: 1ch, 2dc in loop, *2ch, 2dc in next loop, repeat from * to last loop,1ch, 1dc in 1st dc.
Repeat round 9, 19 times.
Rnd 29: 1ch, 2dc in loop, *1dc in ea of next 2 dc, 2dc in loop, repeat from * to end, sl st to 1st dc.
Rnd 30: 1ch, 1dc in ea dc, sl st to 1st dc.
Repeat round 30, 4 times.
Fasten off. - Step 2
- Lay bag flat and mark the middle 12 sts on each side.
Strap is worked on these 12 sts.
Row 1: Join yarn to 1st st with sl st, 1ch, 1dc in same st as sl st, dec over next 2 sts, 1dc in ea of next 6 sts, dec over next 2 sts, 1dc, 1ch turn.
Row 2: Dec over next 2 sts, 1dc in ea of next 6 sts, dec over last 2 sts, 1ch, turn.
Row 3: 1dc in ea of next 8 sts, 1ch, turn.
Repeat row 3, 45 times.
Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing seam. Work strap on the other side of bag in same way. - Step 3
- To join
Hold the two ends together and use one tail to sew the middle loops together with a whip stitch, and the other tail to sew the outside loops together. Sew in ends and finish off.
This method gives the join added strength.

- Bag is worked in rounds, with each row slip stitching into first stitch of the round before moving up to next round. A stitch marker is recommended to keep a track of the start of the rounds.
