- Materials
- • 12” x 12” scrapbook paper (preferably with scalloped edge)
• 12” x 12” aqua textured cardstock (bazzill basics)
• 12” x 12” co-ordinating scrapbook paper
• 20cm pearl lace ribbon
• 8cm wire (22 gauge or similar)
• co-ordinating foam or fabric flowers
• Happy Birthday sticker or rub-on letters
• Ranger Distress Inks - Old Paper, Tea Dye
• foam ink applicator
• scissors
• knitting needle or embossing tool
• double-sided tape
• sticky tape
• needle or awl
• adhesives
• paper trimmer - Step 1
- Download paper template from
www.http-design.com/files/cakecardtemplate.pdf (101kb) and print at 100% size on A4 white paper, or use the template on the next page. Adhere to scrapbook paper using temporary adhesive and cut around the solid outline. Score the dotted lines using
the embossing tool.
- Step 2
- Remove the template and fold all score lines into mountain folds with paper pattern side up. Attach double-sided tape to tabs 1, 2 and 3 on the template.

- Step 3
- Decorate the cake with lace ribbon and foam flowers. Markers on the template show whaere we added our elements. Make sure that lace ribbon will align with the bottom edge of the cake when the cake is assembled.

- Step 4
- Cut aqua cardstock to 13cm x 10.95 cm. Pencil in a freehand wavy edge around all four sides and cut to size. Ink the edges of the paper with Old Paper ink and then Tea Dye ink using a foam applicator.

- Step 5
- To make a candle, cut a 3cm x 8cm strip of scrapbook paper. Run a line of glue down one edge and roll the paper around the craft wire. Fold a 2cm x 3cm piece of yellow pattern paper in half and attach to the top of the wire with glue. When dry, cut a flame shape from the candle. Leave a length of wire sticking out the bottom of the candle.

- Step 6
- For the card cut scalloped edge scrapbook paper 14cm x 27cm and fold in half. Affix the blue inked paper to the top edge of the card.
Affix a sticker word spelling ‘Happy Birthday’ to the bottom edge of the card. Affix the cake by attaching the small triangular panel marked on the template to the card.
Only this small triangle should be attached to the card. It may help to fold the cake shape and test it in position against the card so you can position it with the top edge of the cake square across the top of the card.
Make a small hole in th e top of the card with a needle and push the wire sticking out from the bottom of the candle through this. Bend the wire underneath the card and tape to the inside of the shape.
When the attachment is dry, fold the cake shape to lie flat on top of the card so it will fit in the envelope.
Later when the recipient removes the paper from the double-sided tape and assembles the cake, the candle can be pulled into an upright position.
