Crochet trimmed scarf

By Spotlight

Turn scraps into style with everyday crafter’s remnants.
Final Result
Materials
• 0.5m of stretch netting or any lightweight fabric (stretch is best)
• sewing machine
• sewing thread to match fabric
• scissors
• 1 ball ‘Moda Vera’ Romantic or ‘Moda Vera’ Bamboo Cotton or Excel or any other 4ply yarn
• 5.50 mm hook
• yarn needle
Step 1
Hem both long sides of the fabric using the sewing machine.
Step 2
Thread the yarn needle with some yarn and blanket stitch evenly along each end, this will be the selvedge and should be approximately 60 - 66 sts.
Step 3
Row 1: Sl st into 1st blanket st, 1dc in same st as sl st, 1dc in each st across, turn.
Row 2-3: 1ch, 1dc in each dc across.
Row 4: 1dc in 1st dc, * (6ch, miss 4 dc, 1dc in next dc) repeat from * ending with 1dc in last st, turn (you may have to fudge a couple of gaps missing 3 instead of 4 to get it even).
Row 5: 7ch, 1dc in 1st 6-ch loop, *(6ch, 1dc in next 6-ch loop) repeat from * ending with 1dc in the last loop, 3 ch, 1dtr in last dc, turn.
Row 6: 1dc in 1st dtr, * (6ch, 1dc in next dc) repeat from * ending with 1dc in the 4th ch of starting ch, turn.
Row 7: Repeat row 5.
Row 8: Repeat row 6.
Row 9: * 26 ch, sl st to 20th ch from hook, 20ch, sl st to same st as sl st, 5ch, 1dc in 6-ch loop, repeat from * until and including last 6-ch loop, repeat once more and sl st to last dc.
Fasten off and sew in ends. Repeat for other end.
Step 4
Variation 1
Work rows 1-8 as above, then Row 9: * 9ch, 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 5ch, 1dc in 6-ch loop, repeat from * until and including last 6-ch loop, repeat once more and sl st to last dc. Fasten off and sew in ends. This creates a row of small loops at the base of the fringe which can be left as is or used to hold cut fringing.
Step 5
Variation 2
Work rows 1-3 as above, then Row 4: 25ch, 1dc in 1st dc, *(25ch, 1dc in next dc) repeat from * across to end of row ending with a sl st to last dc.
Fasten off and sew in ends.
This creates a row of loopy fringes.
