Crochet wooden coat hanger

By Spotlight

Good ideas never die. Hold on to slippery fabrics & avoid creasing with this old-school crochet project.
Materials
• 1 x100g ball Patons Smoothie DK
• 4.50mm crochet hook
• scissors
• yarn needle for sewing

Dec = decrease over next 2 sts [(yoh, pull up loop in next st,) twice, yoh, pull through all 3 loops]
This hanger is worked in a spiral.
Step 1
Foundation: With 4.50mm hook, make 4ch, sl st into 1st ch to form ring.
Rnd 1: 1ch, 6dc in ring, sl st to 1st dc (6 dc).
Rnd 2: 2dc in each dc (12 dc).
Rnd 3: (2dc in next dc, 1dc in next dc) 6 times, (18 dc).
Rnd 4: 1htr in each dc, (18 htr).
Continue to work 1htr in each st until the sleeve in long enough to cover coat hanger, (approximately 40 rows)
Next row: (Dec, 1dc) 6 times.
Next row: (Dec) 6 times.
Fasten off, leaving a tail to sew up end.
Step 2
Unscrew the hook from the coat hanger, and glue a layer of wadding to the hanger to give the hanger substance. When it is dry, slip the hanger into the crocheted sleeve and using a needle, thread yarn through the tops of the last 6 sts and pull up tight to close hole and sew in end. Find the original hole in the top and screw the hook back into the coat hanger. This can be tricky but be patient and you will find the hole.
