Project

Double-sided headbands

By Spotlight

Yet another creative & economic idea for using up fabric scraps.
Final Result
Materials
•34cm x 8cm fabric for front
• 34cm x 8cm fabric for back
• 34cm x 8cm medium iron-on interfacing
• 25cm* of 10-15mm wide soft elastic
• sewing thread to match fabrics
• scissors
• sewing machine
• pins
• iron

*25cm length of elastic will make an adult size headband; 21cm length of elastic will make a headband for a small child.
Step 1
Using the template provided cut out one of each fabric and one of interfacing. Iron the interfacing to the wrong side of the front headband fabric.
Step 2
With the right side up and 5mm in from ends, sew elastic to each of the short ends of the interfaced fabric, aligning raw ends so that elastic is facing inwards towards middle of fabric. With right sides together, pin the remaining fabric piece over the top of the fabric with elastic.
Step 3
Sew the fabrics together using a 1cm seam allowance, leaving a 5cm opening along one of the longer sides. Take care not to catch the elastic in the seam. Trim seams and clip corners, turn headband right side out through 5cm opening. Press flat. Topstitch all edges of headband 3mm in from the edge.
Handy Hint
Use pellon between the fabric layers and stitch around the design on the fabric, or hand stitch beads, buttons or other embellishments onto the headband.
Handy Hint
Home sewers might like to use leftover fabric scraps from school uniforms to create matching headbands.

    • I have used this pattern many times to make headbands to use whilst removing/applying makeup and add these to gifts with embroidered face washers. I get many request for these to be added into my friends next presents. Thank you for the great project pattern.
