- Materials
- What you’ll need
• Fabrics are from ‘printed flannel’ range
• 1.2m octopus bright (backing & appliqué)
• 1.2m dot
• 1.2m x 70cm Sew Easy cotton/bamboo batting
• Matching Gütermann 100% cotton thread
• Rotary cutter, mat & quilters rulers
• Quilting pins, tape measure
• Scissors, seam ripper
• Hand needle
• Embroidery floss – blue
• Vliesofix
• Pencil
• Sewing machine with 1?4" foot and walking foot
All fabrics should be 100% cotton, washed & pressed.
Read all instructions carefully before commencing the quilt. - Step 1
- CUTTING
• Cut both octopus and dot flannel and batting 27" x 45".
• Using the octopus template provided [bottom of page] or create your own, trace
design onto the paper backing of the Vliesofix. Roughly cut around the design then iron onto the wrong side of the octopus fabric. When cool carefully cut out the design. - Step 2
- Lay the quilt top out flat and position the octopus as desired. Remove backing paper iron in place.
- Step 3
- Use embroidery floss and blanket stitch to sew around the edges of the applique? design and satin stitch eyes.
- Step 4
- FINISHING
Place top (applique? piece) and backing (octopus fabric) right sides together with batting on top. Pin together around the edges. Using a 1/2" seam allowance, sew together around all four sides leaving a 7" opening in the bottom edge for turning through. - Step 5
- Turn through to right side and hand sew opening closed. Topstitch around all sides 1/2" from the edge.
- Step 6
- Attach a label to the back.
