Girls Butterfly Paisley Aprons

Note: This apron consists of a basic apron panel with added ruffles.

Materials
70cm Butterfly Peace – pink/blue
20cm Butterfly Paisley – pink/blue
20cm Butterfly Stripe – pink/blue
20cm Butterfly Floral – pink/blue
Gutermann 100% cotton thread – white
Scissors
Tape measure
Pins & hand needle
Sewing machine
Iron
Chalk pencil
Paper & pencil
Optional – overlocker
Step 1
Draw the pattern following diagram. From butterfly peace fabric cut out a basic apron using pattern.
Step 2
Press under 1cm along both armhole curves of apron panel, then another 1cm. Pin and stitch.
Step 3
Cut 4 strips 8cm wide x 50cm from butterfly peace fabric for ties. Fold one in half lengthways with right sides together, sew across one end and down the length using a 1cm seam allowance, leaving the other end open. Turn through to right side and press. Repeat for all 4 strips.
Step 4
Press under top of apron panel 1cm, then another 2cm. Trap open end of one tie under pressed hem at top of apron on the left-hand edge. Fold back up and pin in place. Repeat with a second tie on the right-hand end.
Step 5
Topstitch to secure hem and straps in place.
Step 6
Press sides of apron panel under 1cm then another 1cm. Slip open end of one tie under pressed hem on left-hand edge at top of side. Fold back up, pin in place. Repeat for right side. Topstitch both sides in place securing hem and ties.
Step 7
Using chalk pencil rule a line across the apron 10cm from the top of the side edge then another line 15cm from the top of the side edge.
Step 8
From butterfly paisley fabric, cut a strip 12cm x 115cm. Zigzag stitch or overlock all edges. Turn short ends under 1cm, press and stitch. Hem one long edge (bottom) in the same manner. Sew a gathering stitch along the top edge and gather evenly.
Pin frill to lower edge of apron with right sides together, align raw edges, match centres and gather to fit. Distribute gathers evenly.
Sew using 1cm seam allowance. Press seam allowance towards apron.
Step 9
From butterfly strip fabric, cut a strip 14cm x 115cm. Zigzag stitch or overlock all edges. Hem short ends and one long edge (bottom) in the same manner as above. Sew a gathering stitch along the top edge and gather evenly. Pin frill wrong side down onto right side of apron at 15cm sewing line, matching centre fronts and gather evenly. Sew in place.
Step 10
From butterfly floral fabric, cut a strip 11cm x 115cm. finish frill as in step 9 and add to 10cm sewing line.
Tip: For a more stylish frilled apron and matching chef’s hat use McCall’s Pattern # M6049 Child Size (S-M-L).
