- Materials
- Approx size: Width from heel to toe 30cm, Length 45cm
• 1 x 100g ball ‘Moda Vera’ Marvel 8ply Main Colour (M) - green
• 1 x 100g ball ‘Moda Vera’ Marvel 8ply Contrast (C) - Printed Christmas mix
• Small quantity of white for Christmas tree motif if desired
• 1 pair 4.00mm knitting needles or size needed to give correct tension
• 3.50mm crochet hook
• Scissors
• Yarn needle for sewing
• Tape measure
• Beads, sewing needle & thread for embellishment if desired - Step 1
- Tension
22 sts x 30 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 4.00mm needles.
To work a tension square, using 4.00mm needles, cast on 33 sts.
Work 44 rows stocking st.
Cast off loosely.
Check your tension carefully.
If less sts to 10cm use smaller needles, if more sts use bigger needles.

Other yarns are likely to produce different results.
Quantities are approximate as they can vary between knitters.
STOCKING - SIDE ONE
Using 4.00mm needles and M, cast on 16 sts.
Row 1: (right side) Knit.
Row 2: Cast on 2 sts, purl to last st, inc in last st... 19 sts.
Row 3: Cast on 2 sts, knit to last st, inc in last st... 22 sts.
Row 4: Inc in first st, purl to last st, inc in last st... 24 sts.
Work rows 5 to 50 incl from graph (link below in notes); increasing, decreasing and casting on and off as indicated... 43 sts.
** Cont in stocking st without shaping until work measures 40cm from beg, ending with a purl row. - Step 2
- Beg Cuff Patt - Using C for rem.
Row 1: Inc in 1st st, knit to last st, inc in last st... 45 sts.
Row 2: K2, * insert right-hand needle knitways into next st, place first two fingers of left hand at back of st, wind yarn anti clockwise round right-hand needle and two fingers 3 times, remove one finger and draw loops through but do not slip original st from needle, then transfer the loops just worked back onto left-hand needle and K4tog tbl, remove other finger and pull the loops down firmly as you go (the sts just knitted and the original st), rep from * to last 2 sts, K2.
Row 3: * K1 tbl, rep from * to end.
Row 4: Knit.
Rep last 4 rows twice, then rows 1 to 3 incl once... 15 rows patt in all.
Work 11 rows stocking st (beg with a purl row).
Cast off loosely. - Step 3
- SIDE TWO (reverse shaping of side one)
Using 4.00mm needles and M, cast on 16 sts.
Row 1: (wrong side) Purl.
Row 2: Cast on 2 sts, knit to last st, inc in last st... 19 sts.
Row 3: Cast on 2 sts, purl to last st, inc in last st... 22 sts.
Row 4: Inc in first st, knit to last st, inc in last st... 24 sts.
Work rows 5 to 50 incl from graph (link below in notes); increasing, decreasing and casting on and off as indicated... 43 sts.
Work as for Side One from ** to end. - Step 4
- CHRISTMAS TREE MOTIF (make one if desired)
Beg Trunk
Using 4.00mm needles and white, cast on 5 sts.
Row 1: (K1, P1) twice, K1.
Row 2: (P1, K1) twice, P1.
Rep 1st and 2nd rows 3 times … 8 rows rib in all.
Shape Tree
Row 1: Cast on 7 sts, knit to end.
Row 2: Cast on 7 sts, knit to end... 19 sts.
Work 2 rows garter st.
Row 5: K1, sl 1, K1, psso, knit to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1... 17 sts.
Row 6: Knit.
Rep last 2 rows until 9 sts rem.
Next Row: Knit.
Cast on 5 sts at beg of next 2 rows... 19 sts.
Next Row: K1, sl 1, K1, psso, knit to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1... 17 sts.
Next Row: Knit.
Rep last 2 rows until 7 sts rem, ending with a knit row.
Cast on 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows... 13 sts.
Next Row: K1, sl 1, K1, psso, knit to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1.
Next Row: Knit.
Rep last 2 rows until 5 sts rem, ending with a knit row.
Next Row: K1, sl 1, K2tog, psso, K1... 3 sts.
Next Row: Sl 1, K2tog, psso.
Fasten off. - Step 5
- TO MAKE UP
DO NOT PRESS.
Using mattress stitch and matching colour, join side and foot seam.
Fold cuff onto wrong side and slip stitch in position.
Using 3.50mm hook and C, make a 15cm length of chain.
Work 3 rows dc along chain.
Fasten off.
Attach ends to back seam of stocking to form a hanging loop as illustrated.
Slip stitch motif to front of stocking and embellish with beads if desired. - Note
