- Yarn needle for sewing seams and embroidery
- Pom pom maker
- 1 wooden knitting needle or 35cm length of dowel

Tension
24 sts and 43 rows to 10cm over moss st, using 3.25mm needles. To work a tension square, using 3.25mm needles, cast on 35 sts.
Work 64 rows moss st as for base of wall hanging. Cast off loosely. Check your tension carefully. If less sts to 10cm use smaller needles, if more sts use bigger needles.
Step 1
Wall Hanging Base
Using 3.25mm needles and M, cast on 49 sts.
1st row: * K1, P1, rep from * to last st, K1.
Last row forms patt. Rep last row until base measures 65cm from beg. Cast off loosely in patt.
Step 2
Pocket 1
Using 4.00mm needles and C1, cast on 32 sts.
Beg Stripe Patt
1st row: * K1, P1, rep from * to end.
2nd row: * P1, K1, rep from * to end.
Last 2 rows form moss st. Work a further 2 rows moss st (4 rows in all).
Using C2, work 4 rows moss st.
Using C3, work 4 rows moss st.
Using C4, work 4 rows moss st.
Last 16 rows form Stripe Patt. Work a further 32 rows Stripe Patt (48 rows in all).
Using C4, cast off loosely in patt.
Step 3
Pocket 2
Using 4.00mm needles and C3, cast on 32 sts.
1st row: * K1, P1, rep from * to end.
2nd row: * P1, K1, rep from * to end. Last 2 rows form moss st.
Work a further 4 rows moss st, dec one st in centre of last row ... 31 sts (6 rows in all).
Beg Patt Next row: (K1, P1) twice, knit to last 4 sts, (P1, K1) twice.
Next row: (K1, P1) twice, purl to last 4 sts, (P1, K1) twice.
Last 2 rows form patt.
Work a further 22 rows patt, inc one st in centre of last row ... 32 sts (24 rows in all).
Work 6 rows moss st (as before). Cast off loosely in moss st.

Using Knitting St embroidery and C4, embroider heart using Graph, to centre of stocking st section.
Step 4
Pocket 3
NOTE – When changing colour in centre of row, twist the colour to be used (on wrong side) underneath and to the right of the colour just used. Always change colours on wrong side of work so colour change does not show on right side.
Step 5
Using 4.00mm needles and C4, cast on 16 sts, then using C3, cast on 16 sts ... 32 sts.
1st row: Using C3 (K1, P1) 8 times, using C4 (K1, P1) 8 times.
2nd row: Using C4 (P1, K1) 8 times, using C3 (P1, K1) 8 times. Last 2 rows form moss st.
Work a further 4 rows moss st (6 rows in all).
Beg Patt Next row: Using C3 (K1, P1) twice, K12, using C4 K12, (K1, P1) twice.
Next row: Using C4 (P1, K1) twice, P12, using C3 P12, (P1, K1) twice. Last 2 rows form patt.
Rep last 2 rows 5 times (12 rows in all).
Rep last 12 rows once, using C1 in place of C3, and C2 in place of C4 (24 rows in all).
Keeping current colours correct, work 6 rows moss st (as before). Cast off loosely in moss st.
Step 6
i-Cord
Using two double-pointed 3.25mm needles and C4, cast on 5 sts.
1st row: Knit, DO NOT TURN. Slip sts to other end of needle. Pull yarn firmly across back of work and rep 1st row, working each row in the same direction until cord is 50cm in length.
Cut off yarn and thread end through sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.
Step 7
To Make Up
Fold top of base over for 3cm and sew in position, leaving open at either end to insert knitting needle or dowel. Place top of 1st pocket 10cm down from upper edge and sew in position. Place bottom of 3rd pocket 3cm above lower edge and sew in position. Centre 2nd pocket between 1st and 2nd pockets and sew in position. Using C3, make 2 small pom poms, using pom pon maker or cardboard. Fold ends of i-cord over for 3cm to create a loop at either end and stitch securely in position. Attach a pom pon to either end of i-cord at top of loop. Insert knitting needle or dowel through opening at top of base and slip i-cord loop on either end to hang, as illustrated.
Note
Use only the yarn specified. Other yarns are likely to produce different results. Quantities are approximate as they can vary between knitters. Check the ball bands to ensure all yarn is from the same dye lot.
