- Materials
- - 2 x 100g balls ‘Moda Vera’ Marvel - cream (MC)
- 2 x 100g balls ‘Moda Vera’ Marvel - one each in 12 colours
- 5.50mm cro-hook (double ended crochet hook)
- 5.50mm crochet hook
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
Approx size: 75cm x 60cm (includes edging) - Step 1
- ON THE DOUBLE SQUARES - make 12.
Using MC (cream) and cro-hook (double ended crochet hook) work 16ch.
Row 1: Pick up a loop in the 2nd ch from hook, pick up a loop in every ch to end,
Turn and slide the shaft through all loops up to the hook at the other end (16 lps).
Make a slip knot in CC yarn, place it on hook and pull through 1st lp.
Row 2: (yoh, pull through 2 lps) repeat up to and including last st, 1ch, do not turn.
Row 3: Sk 1st vertical bar, (pull up lp through next vertical bar) repeat up to and including last st, (16 lps).
Turn and slide the shaft through all loops up to the hook at the other end and pick up MC.
Row 4: (yoh, pull through 2 lps) repeat up to and including last st, 1ch, do not turn.
Row 5: Sk 1st vertical bar, (pull up lp through next vertical bar) repeat up to and including last st.
Turn and slide the shaft through all loops up to the hook at the other end and pick up CC.
Rows 2-5 form pattern, work a square of 13 rows of each colour and finish off in cream by working a row of dc across the top.
Make one square of each colour and sew them together in a rectangle with 4 squares in each row across and 3 in each row down. - Step 2
- BORDER
With cream yarn and crochet hook, work a row of dc all around the finished rectangle remembering to work 3dc into each of the four corners to help the edging stay flat.
Work 2 more rounds of dc.
Rnd 4: 1dc in middle of cnr, *(7ch, sk 5 dc, 1dc in next dc, 3ch, 1dc in next dc) repeat to end of rnd finishing with (1dc, 3ch, 1dc) in middle dc of next cnr, (you may have to fudge a couple of skipped ch to end at the cnr), repeat from * to end of rnd finishing with 1dc in same st as 1st dc, 1ch, 1dc into 1st dc.
Rnd5: 1dc in 1-ch lp, *4tr, 2ch, 1dc, 2ch, 4tr in 7-ch lp, 1dc in 3-ch lp, repeat from * to end of rnd, sl st into 1st dc.
Rnd 6: 7ch, 1dtr in 1st dc, 4ch, 1dc in 2-ch lp, 3ch, 1dc in next 2-ch lp, * (7ch, 1dc in 2-ch lp, 3ch, 1dc in next 2-ch lp) repeat to next cnr, working 4ch, 1dtr, 3ch, 1dtr, 4ch) in dc at next cnr, repeat from * to end of round finishing with a sl st into 4th ch of st-ch,
Rnd 7: sl st into 3-ch lp, 1dc, 2ch, 4tr in 4-ch lp, 1dc into 3-ch lp, *(4tr, 2ch, 1dc, 2ch, 4tr in 7-ch lp), 1dc in 3-ch lp, repeat from * to end of rnd, sl st into 1st dc.
