- Materials
- Fabrics are from ‘Parklife’ range
• 20cm Fabric A – check
• 20cm Fabric B – floral stripe
• 50cm Fabric C – zigzag stripe (includes binding)
• 30cm Fabric D – green bird print
• 30cm Fabric E – blue bird print
• 50cm white homespun
• 1.2m Fabric of choice for backing
• 1.2m Sew Easy cotton/bamboo batting
• Matching Gütermann 100% cotton thread
• Rotary cutter, mat & quilters rulers
• Quilting pins, tape measure
• Scissors, seam ripper, Hand needle
• Sewing machine with 1/4" foot and walking foot
All fabrics should be 100% cotton, washed & pressed.
1/4" seam allowance used throughout unless otherwise indicated.
Read all instructions carefully before commencing the quilt. - Step 1
- Cutting:
• From each of Fabrics A, B & C cut 2 x 3" strips (6 strips in total).
• From each of Fabrics D & E cut 3 x 3" strips (6 strips in total).
• From white homespun cut 2 x 8" strips, crosscut into 9 x 8" squares.
• From Fabric C cut 4 x 21/2" strips for binding. - Step 2
- 9-PATCH BLOCKS
Arrange the 12 x 3" strips into 4 sets of 3 strips. - Step 3
- Stitch each set together lengthways to make 4 strip sets. Crosscut each strip set into 3" units (52 units in total).
- Step 4
- Mix and match the 3" units into sets of 3 to make 16 x 9-patch blocks (there will be 4 units left over). Pin and sew units together to make 16 x 9-patch blocks that will be 8" square.
- Step 5
- QUILT TOP
Lay out 9-patch bocks and white homespun blocks in 5 rows of 5 blocks as per diagram. - Step 6
- Sew the blocks in each row together. Press seams in one direction alternating the direction in each row.
- Step 7
- Sew the rows together matching seams. Press seams in one direction.
- Step 8
- Layer backing, batting and quilt top, baste together. Quilt in the ditch or as desired.
- Step 9
- Join the 4 x 2 1/2" zigzag stripe binding strips to make one long strip. Press in half lengthwise and bind mitering corners. Attach a label or sign and date your quilt.
