Wall hanging measures 18½” x 17½” (47.5cm x 45cm) - Step 1
- Template
Enlarge butterfly template to desired size or draw your own. Trace design onto the paper side of the Vliesofix but do not cut it out. Cut a piece of black homespun slightly larger than the Vliesofix. Using the iron, fuse the Vliesofix onto the wrong side of the homespun.
- Step 2
- Silhouette
Using a sharp pair of scissors carefully cut out the butterfly. To remove the enclosed section between the wings and the antennae make a small cut in the centre of the area and cut out using small sharp embroidery scissors.
- Step 3
- Background
Cut printed/homespun background fabric 10¼” x 11¼” or desired size. Remove the paper backing and iron the butterfly silhouette onto the background fabric.
- Step 4
- Inner border
Cut four 1½” wide strips of black homespun and sew one to the top and one to the bottom edges of the silhouette background. Press seams towards border. Sew remaining two strips to sides. Press seams towards border. - Step 5
- Outer border
Cut four 3¼”wide strips of floral fabric and sew one to the top and one to the bottom edges of the inner border. Press seams towards border. Sew remaining two strips to sides. Press seams towards border. - Step 6
- Quilt
Layer backing, batting and quilt top, pin or baste together. Quilt as desired. - Step 7
- Binding
Trim backing and batting. Cut 2 x 2½” strips across the width of the black homespun and join strips for binding. Press in half lengthways. Stitch to right side of quilt, mitering corners as you go. Turn binding over to the back and hand stitch in place. If desired add a rod pocket for hanging. Sign and date your quilt or attach a label.
- Note
- All fabrics should be 100% cotton, washed & pressed. ¼” seam allowance used throughout unless otherwise indicated. Read all instructions carefully before commencing the wall hanging.
