Final Result

Materials

• ‘Bella Baby’ SPOIL 50g balls as per size
• 1 pair 6.00mm knitting needles
• 1 pair 5.00mm knitting needles
• 6.00mm crochet hook
• Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure

Step 1

HAT
Using 5.00mm needles, cast on 51 (57, 63) sts.
Work 6 rows of 1 x 1 rib as follows:
Row 1(RS): (K1, P1) to last st, K1.
Row 2 (WS): (P1, K1), to last st, P1.
Change to stocking st and 6.00mm needles, cont until work measures 8 (9.5,
11)cm from beg, ending with a purl row.

Step 2

Shape Crown
Row 1: [K8 (9, 10), K2tog] to end … 46 (52, 58) sts.
Row 2 & all even rows: Purl.
Row 3: [K7 (8, 9), K2tog] to end … 41 (47, 53) sts.
Row 5: [K6 (7, 8), K2tog] to end … 36 (42, 48) sts.
Row 7: [K5 (6, 7), K2tog] to end … 31 (37, 43) sts.
Row 9: [K4 (5, 6), K2tog] to end … 26 (32, 38) sts.
Row 11: K2tog to end … 13 (16, 19) sts.
Work 1 row. Cut yarn, leaving a 20cm tail. thread tail through rem sts, draw
up tightly and fasten off securely.

Step 3

FLAPS
Place piece on a flat surface with rib base at the top, measure along rib base
8 (8.5, 9)cm from right-hand side edge; knit up 9 (11, 13) sts from that
point towards centre.
Work 7 rows of garter st.

Step 4

Shaping
Dec 1 st at each end of next row … 7 (9, 11) sts. Knit 3 rows.
Dec 1 st at each end of next row, and every alt row until 3 sts rem.
Knit 1 row.

Step 5

Last row: Sl 1, K2tog, psso … 1 st.
Change to crochet hook, work chain for 28cm.
Fasten off and knot near end.
Repeat for the other flap.

Step 6

FINISHING
With rights sides facing, pin and oversew back seam.
Top with a loose pompom. Weave in loose ends.

Tension
13 sts to10cm over stocking st using 6.00mm knitting needles.
